AUDIO "Recasting Religious Freedom: Is Conservative Jurisprudence Backing into Relativism?" - Hadley Arkes at Faith and Law
By The James Wilson Institute • Posted on Dec 10 2019

In a speech delivered at the U.S. Senate before an audience gathered by Faith & Law, Prof. Hadley Arkes, JWI Founder and Director, demonstrates how the Supreme Court has caused a deep coarsening in the culture of our nation. Prof. Arkes analyzes a series of cases on religious freedom and free speech that display how the courts have continued to slide into moral ambiguity on testing claims for free exercise and free expression. He points out how conservative arguments have accepted the premises of moral relativism. In particular, Prof. Arkes criticizes the emphasis conservatives have placed on the religious believers' sincerity rather than on the relevant truth claims underlying each claim of free exercise.
