In January 2020, The James Wilson Institute and National Review Institute co-hosted Richard Brookhiser, senior fellow of the National Review Institute, to discuss his recent book, Give Me Liberty, a recounting of the history of American liberty as told through the lens of thirteen key documents in American history. He presented a more inspiring story of American nationalism as it has evolved over four hundred years. He argued that Americans have always sought, asked for, and fought for liberty. This is a heritage that Americans should be proud of. Brookhiser shared a conversation with JWI Deputy Director Garrett Snedeker about the before fielding questions from the audience.

Richard Brookhiser is a senior editor of National Review, a senior fellow at National Review Institute, a columnist for American History, and the author of over a dozen books, including Founding Father: Rediscovering George Washington, Founders’ Son: A Life of Abraham Lincoln, and Alexander Hamilton, American. He received an honorary doctorate from Washington College in 2005 and a National Humanities Medal in 2008. He lives with his wife and fellow author Jeanne Safer in New York City.
