Robert J. Conrad, Jr. is a United States District Judge for the Western District of North Carolina. He was nominated by President George W. Bush and confirmed on April 28, 2005. He became Chief Judge of the district in 2006 and served until 2013.
Judge Conrad’s legal career began in 1983. He engaged in the private practice of law before becoming an Assistant United States Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina from 1989 to 2001. In 2001, he was nominated and confirmed to the position of United Sates Attorney for the same district where he served from 2001 to 2005. Judge Conrad is a native of Chicago, Illinois. He is a 1980 graduate of Clemson University and received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1983.
